CHICAGO — A man rescued from Lake Michigan early this morning has died.

Police and fire crews were called to the 3300 block of East Cheltenham in the South Shore neighborhood about 6 a.m.

A dive team pulled the man from the water.

He was initially taken to South Shore Hospital in critical condition but later died.

It’s not clear how he ended up in Lake Michigan.

The area is near a water treatment plant.
