Many old time healers knew that the power of health begins in the colon. At Anti-Aging Therapies of AZ, we begin many of our cleansing programs with colon hydrotherapy using open colon irrigation systems. Colonic irrigation is a gentle introduction of water into the lower bowel, known as the large intestine. A cleansed colon opens up the pathways of elimination for the liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph and skin, thereby optimizing their elimination functions.
For more intensive cleansing, many individuals may add coffee, herbal teas or wheat grass juice during the procedure. According to the Gerson therapy protocol, coffee added to colonic water helps to release bile and encourage the liver to release more toxins. Coffee is found to be beneficial in increasing peristalsis for constipation issues and even reduces pain in chronically ill patients.
Anti-Aging Therapies of Arizona offers both open and closed system colon hydrotherapy. We realize you are an individual with individual needs and preferences. We are purposed to help you achieve your health goals and needs with offering choices to meet those needs.
Both of our systems meet FDA medical class II equipment requirements. The water is filtered and passed through a UV light to assure sanitary water passing into your colon. The units have back flow preventers passing the city of Phoenix and public health sanitation requirements. We use only disposable speculums and rectal tubes with each treatment.
Our open system is a LIBBE unit. With the LIBBE, a lubricated rectal tube is inserted into the rectum allowing the filtered water to flow gently into the large intestine. The client will take in as much water as he/she can comfortable hold and then release the loosened and hydrated fecal matter . For clients who have difficulty with leakage during the colonic session or fecal impaction, this method is ideal because all water flows directly into a hole on the colonic bed. The open system allows the client complete privacy with or without the assistance of the therapist in the room. There is a venting system to eliminate the worry of odors and a spray hose to rinse at the end of the session.
Our closed system is a Hydro-Sans model The closed system uses disposable speculum and 2 hose connections. One hose used to bring filtered water into the colon and the large hose to evacuate the waste water and fecal material. This system is ideal for clients who may have difficulty in taking in enough water to fill the colon. The therapist is with the client for the entire session. Gentle abdominal massage is incorporated throughout the session to assist loosening of stool and releasing blocked gas and stool.
A colon therapist is not licensed to diagnose what he/she observes however, based on the consistency of the stool, hard, soft, easily broken can help him/her offer recommendations on the proper change in diet and /or supplements. We are here to help our clients incorporate therapies, proper nutritional supplementation, assist with fasting and cleansing programs and encourage healthy lifestyles. It is not our intent to create a dependency on colon hydrotherapy as a means of bowel elimination.
We look forward to serving you and watching you achieve your health goals!

Q. What are colonics?
A. Colon Hydrotherapy uses water to gently cleanse the large intestine or colon. In the past, colonics have been called “High Enemas” because of their ability to cleanse the body entirely, including the ascending colon and cecum.
Q. What are colonics for?
A. Colonics are used to cleanse the body of toxins that build up in the colon. When these toxins can no longer be effectively eliminated through the large intestine, they can cause “auto-intoxication,” which is the poisoning of one’s own system through un-eliminated toxins. This results in a wide variety of symptoms which may include aching joints, headaches, poor concentration, mood swings, PMS, lethargy, fatigue etc. Many diseases may also be linked to auto-intoxication. Colonics themselves are not a cure for any disease, but they can aid the body’s natural ability to heal itself by temporarily removing the overload on the system caused by the toxins.
Q. What should I expect my first visit?
A. Generally on the first visit, the therapist and the patient will go over a brief history and make sure that the person has no health conditions that can be aggravated by Colon Hydrotherapy. The therapist will inform the patient regarding the entire procedure and answer any questions the patient may have. For these reasons, the first visit is usually about an hour and a half long.
There are 2 types of system used for colonics, a closed system and an open system. With a closed system, the therapist administers the colonic with a type of tube that is about 1 ½ inches in diameter, and pushes water into the colon through the rectum, then sucks it back out when the colon fills. With the open system, however, a tube about a centimeter and a half in diameter is inserted into the rectum and water is pushed into the colon at the pace and temperature that the patient chooses. When the patient feels like they need to have a bowl movement, they release the water, just like a bowel movement. It is the patient’s choice whether or not to have the therapist in the room.
Q. Is there any pain?
A. Some patients experience mild to moderate cramping during and directly after the procedure. Some people also feel a “toxic” feeling afterwards, mild nausea and grogginess. This is due to the toxins in the colon being stirred around and reabsorbed into the blood stream. It is recommended to drink plenty of water throughout the day after a colonic to help eliminate the toxins faster.
Q. What should I eat before I have a colonic?
A. We recommend that you do what is most comfortable for you. Some people feel that fasting for a day before the colonic makes them feel like “the cleanse” has been more complete. But, again, it is all personal choice.
Q. How often should I have a colonic?
A. This something that is unique from person to person. Like any therapy, the treatment needs to be repeated over a long period of time for lasting results. It is generally recommended that a person get multiple colonics within a short period of time at first, then every other week to once a month after that.
Q. Why are beneficial bacterial, like Acidophilus, important?
A. During a colonic, many harmful bacteria are removed from the colon. At the same time, helpful bacteria are also removed. It is important that you replace the helpful bacteria to restore the natural, health balance of the intestinal flora. Your therapist may give you supplements to help replace those floras or insert a pro-biotic into the colon after the therapy.
Parasite Questions Parasites are fragile! Despite the common myth you can see them in your colonic waste, they are rare to identify. If parasites are suspected, test kits are available to send to a parasitologist for evaluation. For clients on parasite cleanses, we recommend colon hydrotherapy as an adjunct therapy to reduce the unpleasant side effects often experienced while cleansing.
