Think of how you begin your day. You jump in the shower, lather up your body and hair, massage conditioner into your scalp and rinse it all off with nice, hot water. Now that you’re clean, you apply lotion and several types of makeup to your face and body (or if you’re a man, lather, shave, and slap on pre-and/or after shave) and style your hair with mousse or gel. Finish with a spritz of hairspray and fragrance and wash your hands with soap or hand cleaner before you leave the bathroom. Remove your clothes from the dry cleaner’s plastic bag and get dressed. Next you’re off to a breakfast of coffee, cold cereal and milk. Dishes go into the dishwasher, which you fill with detergent. Then you brush your teeth with minty-fresh toothpaste and rinse with mouthwash before you head out the door. Good morning! If you’re like most people, you just started your day with a dose of about 250 chemical toxins—all before you walk out the door.
That’s right. You’re probably innocently contaminating your body, and while you’re doing it, you’re threatening your health. We are exposed to 80,000 manmade chemicals in our day-to-day lives. These chemicals accumulate in the body over the years with dire consequences—chronic fatigue, memory loss, premature aging, skin disorders, arthritis, hormone imbalances, anxiety, emotional disorders, cancers, numerous autoimmune diseases and heart disease, to name a few.
So what does this have to do with cellulite? Well that is what cellulite is, toxins stored in your fat cells. This is the way that your body protects it’s self. This is why healthy weight loss is so important. As we reduce our body fat, those toxins have to be eliminated via some kind of elimination system such as lymphatic, kidneys, liver ect. If to many enter the system at once the system becomes overloaded and you see problems, for example water retention or swollen lymph nodes.
Now you may think that only heavy people have cellulite. Not true, many people that are the size they would like to be have it also. It is all about toxic load. The higher the load the more you will see. Many people that are eating clean and are stuck at a certain weight and can’t seem to reduce their body fat any further have found benefits as I have placed them on a different kinds of cleansing programs. If you have never done any kind of cleansing you might think about doing some, which I will share at the end of this series. First you need to understand where you are picking them up.
I want to introduce you to just some of the toxins that are all around us—not to frighten you, but to equip you to remove as many of them as possible from your life. You’ll learn that toxins are literally all around you and that you really can’t avoid all of them. But you can dramatically reduce your exposure to chemical contaminants when you know where they’re found. The fewer toxins your body has to fight off, the healthier and leaner it can be.
Our environment is filled with chemicals. They permeate our home, our office, our food, our car, even the air we breathe and the water we drink. Toxic chemicals are also found in the products we use to care for our home and ourselves. We are exposed to hundreds—possibly thousands—more chemicals than our great grand parents were. While our bodies can handle some chemical exposure and remain healthy, the levels of toxins we are forced to deal with are having an alarming effect on our health.
Here are just two examples of the pervasive and devastating effects of chemical toxins.
Endocrine Attack
Currently, 100, 000 synthetic chemicals are known to exist in our environment. The endocrine system is affected by 51 of these synthetic chemicals. Some of them mimic estrogens, but many of them interfere with other parts of the system, such as the pituitary and the thyroid.
The endocrine system is an integrated system of glands located throughout the body. Each gland produces hormones that influence every cell, organ and function in our body. For example, the adrenal glands produce hormones that you can’t live without, including sex hormones and cortisol, which helps you respond to stress. The adrenals gland is largely affected by these manmade compounds, and when the adrenals fail, the thyroid soon follows. In my clinical practice 75 percent of my patients who had adrenal problems had adrenal fatigue, and the other 25 percent were in failure. This is a huge problem. These victims of environment have no energy, can’t sleep at night, and feel generally unwell.
Any time the endocrine system suffers, a ripple effect moves throughout the entire system. When one part of the endocrine system goes down, it drags the other parts with it. It isn’t like the adrenals go down and the body says, ‘Oh well, there go the adrenals! We’ll miss them.’ The glands of the endocrine system are team players, and every part of the endocrine system shifts to compensate for any imbalance in one organ, creating an imbalance in the entire system. That’s why it’s so important to keep your endocrine system balanced.
With all that the adrenal glands do for the body, it’s easy to see why attacking toxins are a big problem.
Toxins and Cancer
Throughout our lifetimes, toxins and carcinogens build up in our systems and can eventually cause the spontaneous ignition of cancerous growth cells. People are suffering from cancer at an all time high. According to the American Cancer Society, over the course of a lifetime, men now have a one in two chance of getting cancer and women a one in three chance. This year alone 570,280 people are expected to die of cancer—almost 1500 people a day!
Amazingly, with such dire predictions, cancer treatment still focuses mostly on cure, not prevention. Some of the most important preventative measures you can take include:
