Laser Therapy, or “photobiomodulation”, is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near-infrared) to draw water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area. Applying light in this way creates a variety of therapeutic effects for patients, including improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling. Laser Therapy has been widely utilized in Europe by physical therapists, nurses and doctors as far back as the 1970’s. Now, after FDA clearance in 2002, Laser Therapy is being used extensively in the United States.
At Carolina Chiropractic Plus, we frequently combine Laser Therapy with other therapies, including chiropractic adjustments and massage as part of a broad-based, integrated treatment plan. We know from years of experience that a combination of approaches and technologies can often be more effective than one when it comes to relieving pain and improving function for our patients.
During the typical treatment (3 to 9 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated), there is usually little or no sensation. From time-to-time, a patient may feel mild, soothing warmth or tingling. Areas of pain or inflammation may also be sensitive briefly before pain reduction. This is one of the laser’s most attractive advantages–during more than twenty years of use by healthcare providers all over the world, researchers, healthcare providers and patients alike have reported dramatic results with very few side effects.
Our team works with K-Laser technology because we believe it offers patients the greatest benefit in terms of pain management, tissue repair, safe treatments and fast treatment times. Here are just a few of the technical features K-Laser has to offer:
