The recent buzz in the implant world is the attempt to keep track of women’s breast implants using an RFID chip, like the one on credit cards, fobs, pet tracking chips or in spy movies. Sientra, a breast implant manufacturer in the U.S. that sells breast implant only to board-certified plastic surgeons has since their release, used individualize code numbers on each implant for monitoring in replacement surgery. The chip utilization is new and I really see no need for it. Just another way for a women going through a Mammogram or a breast MRI to have a problem and that information is not typically needed unless removal surgery is required. I would take a pass on this ‘new’ development.
