Cellulite Treatment

There are many cellulite reducing products and cellulite treatments on the market today that promise to get rid of cellulite. But there has been little evidence until now that shows that many of the cellulite treatments work well or at all.

Nerium International has released a cellulite treatment cream that has clinically proven results. NeriumFirm Body Contouring Cream is a scientific breakthrough that holds the answers to having a body that looks toned and smooth all year. Following all of the historical successes and record breaking sales of the NeriumAD age-defying skincare line, Nerium International presents NeriumFirm Body Contouring Cream!

NeriumFirm Body Contouring Cream is a skin-tightening cream developed from the patented NAE-8 extract of the Nerium oleander plant. A powerful antioxidant formulation has been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of cellulite and dimpling and to help smooth, tighten and firm the appearance of loose skin. NeriumFirm also helps restore the appearance of youthful contour, tone and texture.

Doctors and Spa Owners are now suggesting that patients use the NeriumFirm Body Contouring Cream as a cellulite treatment. NeriumFirm Contouring Cream is a much less expensive cellulite treatment than most other cellulite treatments, with better results.

Dr. Randy Nordyke, owner and Medical Director of an upscale Medical Spa in Southern California, where they specialize in cellulite reduction treatment talks about NeriumFirm Body Contouring Cream:

“I want to talk a little about the cellulite treatments we do in our spa, not to promote, but to tie into the NeriumFirm Contouring Cream.  There are two procedures currently being used at our spa for cellulite treatment.  The first cellulite treatment is “Fat Freezing” and the other is “Venus”.  Venus is according to the American Health and Beauty Institute, the No. 1 non-surgical radio frequency treatment for cellulite.  The machine costs is about $90,000.  Patient’s fees are around $2500 for 6 treatments.

The way ‘Venus’ works is that it basically helps rebuild the collagen that has been broken down and causes the dimpling and cellulite.  The reason that I am telling you this, is that we are seeing results from the NeriumFirm that are as good or even better that what we see with ‘Venus’ and I own the machine.

NeriumFirm is the only contouring cellulite cream on the market harnessing the power of the NAE-8 extract, the key ingredient in the renowned NeriumAD skincare line. In addition to the proven results of NAE-8, NeriumFirm contains five other key ingredients:

  • Peptide matrix
  • Caffeine
  • White willow bark extract
  • Green tea leaf extract
  • Forskohlii root extract

This is what you should know about some of the other cellulite treatment options:

Other Cellulite Treatment Creams. Cellulite creams and cellulite treatments are said to dissolve fat and smooth the skin. But many cellulite treatment creams contain aminophylline, a prescription drug that approved for treatment asthma. There is no scientific evidence that these cellulite creams are an effective cellulite treatment, and for some people, they may be harmful. The cellulite creams apparent effect on cellulite may be due to narrowing your blood vessels and forcing water from the skin creating dehydration, which could be dangerous for people with circulatory or other health problems. Aminophylline could possibly also cause an allergic reaction in some people. In some cases, the ingredients in these cellulite treatments  cause skin reactions and rashes.

Liposuction. Some people may turn to liposuction as a treatment for cellulite. This cellulite treatment is a surgical procedure to remove fat deposits from the body. During the liposuction treatment, a surgeon will insert a narrow tube through small incisions just under your skin and then uses the suction procure to remove the fat cells.  Though liposuction can shape the body it will only remove the deep fat, not the cellulite, which is just beneath the skin. The American Academy of Dermatology has warnings  liposuction treatment may actually worsen the appearance of the cellulite by creating more depressions in the skin.

Laser-Assisted Liposuction is a newer, less invasive form of this cellulite treatment that destroys fat cells while tightening the skin and may be a more effective treatment for cellulite than the regular liposuction. This treatment can be very expensive.

Mesotherapy is a treatment therapy originally developed to relieve the pain of some inflammatory skin conditions. The treatment involves injecting solutions such as vitamins, minerals, herbal extracts, hormones, amino acids, and enzymes into the tissue just under the skin. Mesotherapy may break down some fat may bring a slight improvement in the appearance of cellulite. But this cellulite treatment also carries risks, which may include swelling, infection, rashes, and bumpy or uneven and irregular skin contours.

Massage and Spa Treatments. Some cellulite treatments are based on the idea that vigorous massage therapy will increase the blood flow in the problem areas, which helps remove toxins and reduce excess fluid buildup in cellulite areas.

Vigorous massage and other spa treatments may have a temporary effect on the appearance of cellulite. But these treatments will not remove cellulite. Any effect on the appearance of cellulite is short-lived and most likely due to the removal of the excess fluid.

One cellulite massage treatment Endermologie (also referred to as Lipomassage),  a hand-held machine is used to knead the skin between the rollers of the machine. Patients may notice a slight improvement to the appearance of cellulite after this treatment, but the results are also typically short-lived.

Laser Treatment. The FDA has cleared the use of a device that uses laser energy to treat appearance of cellulite. According to the manufacturer, the device can melt fat under the skin, break up the fibrous bands under the skin, and stimulate collagen production.

Laser or light therapy: There are now two light-therapy machines that combine suction and or massage with light therapy for a temporary reduction of the appearance of cellulite in which the FDA has approved. TriActive is a cellulite treatment that combines a low-level laser treatment along with suction and manipulation of the skin, while VelaSmooth is a treatment combining laser and massage therapy. Like Endermologie, both of these treatments require multiple treatment sessions with regular maintenance treatments to keep up the improved appearance of the cellulite reduction. Laser massage combined treatments are mush more costly than just massage treatments. Complete cellulite treatment programs can costs thousands of dollars.

Lasers and Radio-frequency Systems. Perhaps one of the most promising new medical treatment is the one that uses lasers and radiofrequency systems. One system offers tissue massage, with radiofrequency technology and infrared light for the treatment of cellulite. Another system delivers a combined tissue massage with a diode laser energy. The third system uses radiofrequency with deep and superficial levels simultaneously to treat the cellulite. All three systems seem to offer improvements to cellulite after a series of treatments. Results may last up to six months and may cost thousands of dollars.

Weight loss

Weight Loss.  Healthy eating and regular exercise can be one of the most beneficial cellulite treatments. Losing pounds and strengthening muscles in your legs, thighs, buttocks and abdomen can improve the appearance of the dimpled skin.

The benefits of weight loss alone are limited, however. Though the cellulite may be less noticeable after weight loss, it won’t go away completely.

Many devices, products and creams claim to treat cellulite. But there is little or no scientific evidence to support these claims. If you do find a cellulite treatment that improves your skin, the results aren’t likely to last long.

The following are a few of the many advertised cellulite treatments. Keep in mind that these treatments haven’t been proved effective in removing cellulite.

What are the supposed “treatments” for cellulite?

Many people dislike the appearance of cellulite and prefer to have skin as smooth as they possibly can. Therefore, much has been written about cellulite, and many treatments have been promoted, ranging from dietary changes to cellulite creams and mechanical treatments. Some of these therapies include

Methylxanthines: Methylxanthines are a group of chemicals that include aminophylline, , and theophyilline. These chemicals are present in many cellulite creams and are promoted as treatments for cellulite because of their known ability to break down fat stores. However, skin creams cannot deliver the required concentration of these chemicals for the length of time required for significant fat breakdown. While studies have shown a small reduction in thigh measurements with some of these preparations, they do not promote significant loss of cellulite. Dietary supplements: Several of these products have been marketed and contain a variety of ingredients such as biloba, , grape-seed bioflavinoids, bladder wrack extract, oil of evening primrose, fish oil, and lecithin. These preparations claim to have positive effects on the body such as boosting metabolism, improving circulation, protecting against cell damage, and breaking down fats. Such claims are difficult to evaluate as is the casewith similar assertions made on behalf of many supplements and alternative therapies. Concepts such as “metabolism,” “circulation,” or “cell damage” cannot be easily measured on an objective basis to determine whether or not any improvement has been achieved. Additionally, because these products are sold as dietary supplements and not as drugs, they are not subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They are therefore exempt from meeting the scientific standards for both safety and effectiveness that are applied to drugs. Furthermore, there are no valid clinical studies to support the use of these dietary supplements for the treatment of cellulite. Studies that have been conducted have not demonstrated any value of these supplements. Some dietary supplements that are promoted for the treatment of cellulite may also pose health risks or may interact with certain prescription drugs. For example, the formulation known as Cellasene contains iodine, whichmany doctors warn may be harmful for those with thyroid and other conditions. Massage treatments: Several machines have been introduced that massage the areas affected by cellulite. These machines use rolling cylinders to gather areas of skin and massage them inside a chamber. One example of massage treatments is Endermologie, which was developed in France and has been used for cellulite treatment since the mid-1990s. This technique uses an electrically powered device that suctions, pulls, and squeezes affected areas. Treatments are expensive and typically last for 30-45 minutes. Ten to 12 treatments are typically required before results are noticeable. Endermologie has been approved by the U.S. FDA for temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite. While a temporary decrease in the appearance of cellulite may occur, the technique appears to redistribute fat rather than permanently alter its configuration under the skin. Regular maintenance treatments are required after theinitial effect has been achieved or the cellulite will return. Mesotherapy: Mesotherapy is a controversial treatment for cellulite that involves injecting drugs or other substances directly into affected tissue. Often, FDA-approved medications are used off-label (meaning that they have been approved for other conditions but not for treatment of this particular condition) in the injections. Herbs and vitamins are often used as well in the injection cocktails. Many injections over multiple (typically 10 or more) sessions are administered. Although this procedure is offered by some physicians, most experts feel that this treatment is unproven and risky. A 2005 report in the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy stated that: “Patients considering mesotherapy for cellulite must be aware that the substances currently being injected to treat this cosmetically disturbing, but medically benign, condition have not been thoroughly evaluated for safety or efficacy.” Collagenase: Collagenase is anaturally-occurring enzyme in the body that breaks down collagen, a component of connective tissue (the tissues that bind our cells together). A small study of 10 women with cellulite conducted in 2006 suggested that injections with this enzyme may be beneficial in improving the appearance of cellulite. The long-term effects of these injections are still unknown, and studies have not yet been carried out to determine the extent and duration of the improvements, if any. The treatment is considered experimental and is not yet routinely available, but research is underway to determine if collagenase injections may become an option for the treatment of cellulite. Cellulite diets: Special “cellulite diets” have been proposed that claim to be effective in treating cellulite. Proponents of these diets claim that the combination of foods in the diet can reduce inflammation and improve circulation in affected areas and diminish cellulite. However, no studies published in the medical literaturehave supported these claims. Experts have conclude that eating a healthy diet can decrease fluid retention and improve the overall health and appearance of skin, but specific diets designed to target cellulite are unnecessary. Wraps: Many salons offer herbal or other types of body wraps as treatments for cellulite. Like cellulite diets, their effects have not been proven or reported in controlled studies in the medical literature. While wraps may decrease fluid retention and improve the overall appearance of skin, these effects are temporary. It is also not possible to “detoxify” the body by the use of herbal or other wraps.
