Portuguese Man-of-War Jellyfish Visit Miami Beach

March often brings strandings of Man-of-War jellyfish on Florida’s Atlantic coast beaches. Visitor Ann McConnell sent in these photos from Miami Beach, taken on March 8, 2010.
She noted that she saw about 30 of these creatures on the beach. In late February several people sent . The snails are often found with the Man-of-War.
Another angle on a Man-of-War, not technically a jellyfish, but a siphonophore, which is a colony of different animals living together.
A Man-of-War can sting long after it has stranded on the beach and died. Avoid all contact with the purple tentacles.
These are great photos. Many thanks to Ann for sharing them.
