Cellulite is a common finding in more than 80% of women over the age of 18. Neither the cause nor an adequate treatment is available. In the last decade, the use of the Accent radiofrequency laser has been postulated to reduce cellulite by changing the size and shape of the fat cells. The accent laser is a non surgical method with small downtime. The Accent laser generates heat waves which break up the fat particles and causes coiling of the collagen. This leads to a tighter, flatter and smoother looking skin. It is also claimed that the radiofrequency waves stimulate removal of excess body fluids and fat from the area. Whether Accent laser really works is hard because not everyone claims to have the desired result. Even among individuals, the results are very variable andhardto predict. There are isolated reports that the Accent laser reduces cellulite after the 4-6 treatments. However, one should know that Accent Laser is not a permanent treatment for cellulite.
