How many times have you seen a woman get out of the pool and quickly wrap a towel around her butt and thighs? The “quick wrap” as I call it is commonly seen in women who are concerned about the appearance of their lower body. Either they have extra fat tissue, cellulite, or both.
So what causes cellulite and how do you get rid of it? Cellulite is caused by the way a female’s connective tissue bands are organized. In women, the bands lie further apart and vertically, allowing fat to push up through them. Think of how a pillow would look if you tried pushing it through a fishing net. In men these bands lay in a crisscross pattern keeping the fat tied down. So you may see slim women (even some with low body fat) with cellulite whereas completely out of shape men are extremely unlikely to have dimples over their hamstrings.
Fat gain, collagen breakdown (exposure to UV light via a tanning bed or sunshine is great for doing this) and tight connective tissue (aging) can make cellulite worse.
Unfortunately there is no quick “cure” for cellulite. I’ve heard that Hollywood stars rub ground coffee on their skin and anti-cellulite creams/lotions and procedures sell like gangbusters. However, no cream can permanently get rid of cellulite and procedures such as Vellasmooth and SmoothShapes only work temporarily.
So what’s your best bet? Exercise and eat right to lose the excess fat tissue, slather sunscreen on your backside and try deep tissue massage. Oh, and quit looking at your backside in the mirror so much and skip the “quick wrap”. Confidence will take you further then fixating on your cellulite.
